The Battle Lake Area
In the center of Otter Tail County, Minnesota, lies a basin 15 miles in diameter, encircled on the east, west and south by the Leaf Hills - or mountains - which rise from 200 to 400 feet above the valley and are of glacial origin. The area is 1,300 - 1,400 feet above sea level.
The basin is dotted with lakes and fertile prairies with a continental divide (Laurentian Divide) running through the region.
- West Battle, East Battle, Crane, Clitherall, Molly Stark, Annie Battle, Blanche, Otter Tail, Silver, Lost and Deer Lakes, and the Otter Tail River, all empty into the Red River of the North and on into Hudson Bay.
- Turtle, North Turtle, Bass, Tamarac, Stalker and Eagle Lakes all flow to the Mississippi River and then to the Gulf of Mexico.
The beautiful clear lakes and gently rolling hills, covered by a mix of wooded areas and rich farmland, make this area a wonderful place to live or visit.
In this setting, the City of Battle Lake is located on the west end of West Battle Lake near the intersection of Minnesota State Highways 210 and 78. It serves as the focal point for shopping, services, the public school, and social activity. The beauty of the surrounding area, the lakes, fishing, and outdoor activity opportunities attract many summer residents and tourists.
